Adopting an Animal

Council have a range of animals currently available for adoption at our animal shelter.

Ararat Rural City Council's local animal shelter is at 19 Pound Lane, Ararat, and is open by appointment.

As a facility of Ararat Rural City Council, the pound supports a no-euthanasia policy for animals who are suitable for rehousing.

Council offers a very reasonable adoption fee of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats which covers the cost of desexing, initial vaccinations, and microchipping.

All animals up for adoption have been thoroughly health checked and temperament tested. They are all desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, worm and flea treated and are looking for a second chance at a happy and healthy life.

See below to view animals currently available for adoption from our shelter, along with adoption application forms for download. We encourage you to call our community safety team to arrange a meet and greet if any of these animals look like they would make the perfect addition to your family!
